Social Network Marketing for Link Building
Matt Cutts, the head of “web spam” at Google, says that you should focus on creating great content, and that people will naturally link to your website over time, which will eventually help your search engine rankings. That’s nice, and I would like to believe him, but there is a mountain of data compiled by SEO experts that suggest otherwise. Off-page SEO – the solicited acquisition of links pointing back to your website – still works and is big business. There are ways to not only increase your link-ability, but to increase your online influence by leveraging major social networks.
How to Build a Valuable MySpace Network
Myspace has gained a reputation as the social network for self expression & meeting people you don’t already know and (unfortunately) spammers. The site is designed as a profile billboard with heavy emphasis on the profile search feature. You can specify almost any demographic attribute using the advanced search feature, from age to income. But there are other search attributes and site features that make Myspace a useful “network marketing” tool. That term may conjure images of pyramid schemes, scams and spam – not intended.
Simple demographic-targeting is one option through the people search feature, but you can take advantage of groups & forums to find individuals directly interested in your subject-matter (product, services, etc). For instance, if you own a Corvette dealership in Chicago, you can join the “Corvette Fan Club” group and browse through profiles within that group and invite select individuals to virtually befriend you.
